The Japurá Project is the latest initiative by SAM GROUP in the sustainable mining sector, focused on gold exploration along the Japurá River in the municipality of Japurá, Amazonas. This region is recognized as one of the richest in gold in Brazil and serves as a tributary of the Solimões River.
The project encompasses five exploration areas located within two fully regulated research areas. These areas are currently in the final stage of Environmental Licensing, with operations expected to commence in 2024. The Japurá Project began in 2020, following the research authorizations ANM No. 880.028/2020 (2,882.46 hectares) and ANM No. 880.068/2020 (293.53 hectares).
LOCATION
With an approximate length of 2,100 km, the Japurá River is divided between 1,367 km in Colombian territory and 733 km in Brazil. A small section of the river forms the international border between the two countries, along with its tributary, the Apaporis. The river originates in southern Colombia, where it is known as Caquetá, and flows into the Solimões River, forming a delta with eight branches. Its watershed covers over 267,000 km².
